History
Elizabeth's Place Antique Market was opened in 1999. The shop was built on family property that was once the estate of Mr. And Mrs. J. B. Lisle. This area of Opelika was known as Gentry Hill.
This store carries my family's stories as well as over a century of history. In my family, we believe that the history of a place is as important as the business within it.
Elizabeth's Place Antique Market was named for my Grandmother, Elizabeth, who was born at the beginning of the 20th century. From riding in horse and buggy to riding in her Father's new Model T, from physically watching the Wright brothers fly one of the first airplanes, to playing in the brickyard where the Pentagon now stands, to seeing the Japanese planes pass close above the rooftop of her Hawaiian home and seeing the bombs fall on Pearl Harbor, to the inauguration of 18 presidents, my Grandmother is a walking library to our past. Passing down her love of history, genealogy, and everything old, she also gave me a passion for this business.
When you walk into our store, you are not just stepping into our lives and our past, but the lives and past of many families before us.
These wonderful treasures of the past can be purchased by you and will become your treasures and your heirlooms to pass on to the next generation.
While you are here, be sure to check out our state champion Saucer Magnolia. The magnolia tree blooms in February. The beautiful pink blooms will last an average of two to fours weeks depending on the weather.
